my 2024 in review
my 2024 in review
i haven't posted much on this blog throughout the year and i thought it'd be a good idea to go over my year as a thing for new year's time.
2024 has been the best year i've had so far in a lot of ways. i decided to go back to school, pursuing an art degree. i've been doing really well with my classes and i'm hoping to continue that into 2025 and beyond. i've made many new friends and started going after my passions, like 2d and 3d art. i also have really developed my close friend group and support systems, and i'd say that is the biggest move i have made this year. i am extremly thankful for my close friends and my wife, i don't know where i'd be without them. i also went to my first concert, being the porter robinson concert in seattle. it was so much fun and i got so many memories. the best one was i went to go get merch and when i got back, this group of girls saved my spot for me and then helped me get right in front of the stage. it was amazing.
next year, i have a lot of plans i wish to do. i want to go further in on the art rabbit hole and starting to put my art out there. i also started working on a creative project with my wife and im really passionate about it and releasing it. i also have a consultation scheduled to get gender-affirming surgery next year as well (dont know how that'll be affected by a trump administration but we'll see).
my new year's resolutions and goals are:
- post an illustration every month with the goal of starting on a portfolio
- lose weight by my consultation in august
- post more on my blog
- keep my grades up above a 3.0
- learn as much as i can about as much as i can :)
music in review
now the expected thing to do is show my spotify wrapped in my 2024 in review, but i thought i'd write out my top artists and something from them that stood out for me. let's go from the 5th up.
5: boa
boa is mostly known for making the opening to Serial Experiments Lain, Duvet. that is my top song from them, both the original and the acoustic version. it is one of my favorites from them and it introduced me to the rest of their discography.
4: her's
her's is an artist that holds a lot of importance to me. it was one of the first artists my wife introduced to me when we started talking. my wife loves music and showed me this band through a playlist she made for me. this artist has stuck with me since, staying in my rotation and i go back to them for nostalgia.
3: radiohead
radiohead is mainly there due to them being the band i exclusively listened to for like, a month straight. in rainbows is one of my favorite albums.
2: glass beach
i discovered this artist myself this year and i have absolutely fallen in love with them. their newest album, plastic death, is the first album i bought physically. i just really like their sound and their music shaped me a lot this year.
1. porter robinson
for people who know me, this is very obvious. he is my favorite artist and i really dove into his discography after the teasers for SMILE :D came out. i fell in love with all of his music, with nuture being my favorite and most streamed album this year. on stats.fm, it says i streamed 8000 minutes of him this year, with glass beach being a faaaar second.
movies in review
i also watched two very impactful movies this year. look back is an anime movie i got to see in theaters and it was such an impactful movie for me as a budding artist. it fueled me in a way ive never experienced from media before. it made me decide to go off the deep end of making art, which ive talked about before on here. the other movie i saw was i saw the tv glow, which is an amazing movie about being trans. it took a second for it to sit with me, but when it sat it definetely is my choice for movie of the year.
thank you so much for reading this post. i plan to post more on here come the new year! i hope everyone reading has an amazing 2025! just remember to keep going, everything will be okay in the end. <3
